Our co-founders were seeing a common problem. How to get kids all the nutrients they needed every day without all the expense and worry. Because of a risk of choking, we advise children under the age of three not to consume our gummies. Some parents cut up SmartyPants into smaller sizes for children younger than three years old, but we can’t advise you that this will totally eliminate a risk of choking in a child under three years old. As for dose, we recommend you check with your healthcare professional until they are old enough to take 4-a-day. 

We are free of Soy Allergens. Because we chose to use a Natural form of Vitamin E as opposed to synthetic, our Natural E is from soy distillates. It is not required to be labeled as an allergen as it is highly refined and does not contain allergenic proteins. But as I think we should always err on the side of safety, we do not list soy on our “free of” list on our label. I would share this information with your healthcare professional.

We make our vitamins and supplements safe for kids because our own kids take them! We do not use any artificial dyes or flavors. We do not use any artificial sweeteners. We ONLY use NATURAL colors and flavors from natural sources (artificial dyes have been linked to behavior issues in children, among other things). We use organic cane sugar and organic tapioca. We source our Omega 3 DHA, and EPA from sustainable small fish sources so they’re eco-friendly and don’t have the same heavy metal, mercury or PCB issues that larger fish sources (such as salmon and tuna) often have. SmartyPants are an excellent source of Omega 3s without any of the environmental contaminant risks that come from eating fish, and they taste great!

We have heard all sorts of ways that people like to eat SmartyPants. To maximize the nutrient impact we recommended eating them twice a day after dinner and/or lunch or in the afternoon to help stave off dips in energy (thanks to the B-12). And in our Willy Wonka quest to maximize flavor (and keep you taking your vitamins) we learned chilling SP in the fridge does wonders to bring our the lemon, orange and cherry flavor. Try it!

Yes, we are always free of gluten, wheat and dairy. All of our products contain no yeast, wheat, milk, eggs, gluten, salt, peanuts, shellfish, artificial colors, artificial flavors, or salicylates.

While we love our SmartyPants Original formula, we know that one size doesn’t fit all and that many of us do what we can to maintain a healthy weight. We know that sugar is a concern for some people so a product with less sugar made sense. We also know that people are becoming increasingly deficient in fiber.  Couple that with the fact that it is becoming harder and harder to find healthy ways to add fiber to your diet, and you’ve got a real problem.  Adding no additional sugar and including an excellent source of soluble fiber was a great way for us to provide a weight control supplement.  But unlike competing weight management products, SmartyPants Weight Management also includes our premium, unique All-in-One formula, with Omega 3s, 225% of the RDI of Vitamin D3, and a full Multivitamin all in one delicious serving!

Our original SmartyPants uses only the best, natural and organic ingredients we can find. Our latest products must meet these same high standards. We kept the best things like our high quality fish oil, our natural vitamin E, high, premium B-12 content and multivitamin formula. However, to create a high fiber gummy with no added sugar that still tasted great and yet contained no artificial sweeteners, we had to create a new formula from scratch.  Ultimately, we found the perfect base for our new gummy in the form of Chicory root. Inulin, derived from chicory root, gave us the great fiber content we were looking for, along with a natural sweetness and delicious flavor all in one.

We think SmartyPants Premium Weight Management gummies are absolutely delicious and are reminiscent of the Dots you used to find in movie theaters (but with lots of great nutrients and none of the artificial junk). While the sweetness is not as intense as SmartyPants Original, you will still recognize the great taste you have come to expect from us, with no fishy aftertaste.

Many competing Weight Management products claim to be Sugar Free. To be completely free of sugar and maintain a palatable taste, these companies usually fill their product with artificial sweeteners like xilytol, polydextrose, sucralose, and sugar alcohols, all of which carry with them questionable – and often negative – health consequences. These artificial sweeteners do not match the rigorous nutritional standards we at SmartyPants require of the ingredients in our gummies. What little sugar there is in our weight management product comes from our soluble fiber source, chicory root extract, and the lo han fruit – all healthy, natural sources of sugar.

Yes – this is not a weight loss product. While organic cane sugar remains a great carrier of nutrients, we know that, for some, sugar is enough of an issue, and we completely understand a desire to reduce sugar intake and add a reliable source of soluble fiber in busy lives.

Smartypants is not for weight loss. While the product contains only 3g of sugar per serving and the soluble fiber contained in our Weight Management product will help you with feelings of fullness and satiety, we do not make any claims about this products ability to help you lose weight.

No. A lot of weight management products out there contain caffeine, which is used to artificially accelerate your metabolism, suppress your appetite, and increase water loss. However, there are no sound long-term studies proving the effects of caffeine actually impact weight loss or weight control.  Not only are caffeine’s claims upon weight control unproven, but caffeine, in high enough amounts, has been shown to potentially cause jitters, anxiety, spikes in blood pressure, a rapid heartbeat, and actually increase appetite and cravings. For our Weight Management product, we wanted only the highest quality ingredients that have undergone rigorous, peer-reviewed study.  We also refuse to use any artificial ingredients in our products, including artificial stimulants. Instead of masking hunger with caffeine, the soluble fiber contained in SmartyPants Weight Management provides you with real fullness. It is a natural way to control weight without any of the side effects that come from stimulants. It will allow for a more sustained release of energy versus the up and crash of caffeine.

Yes! Not only does does our Weight Management gummy contain all the great things from SmartyPants original, but it also contains fiber and no added sugar.

Our chicory root base contains a naturally occurring sugar in the low amount of 3g for Adults. We do not believe in using any sugar substitutes such as agave syrup, stevia, or xylitol, which may all have deleterious effects on health.

According to the American Heart Association, a diet high in fiber has been associated with higher diet quality and lower risk of cardiovascular disease. Among it’s many benefits, soluble fiber reduces bad cholesterol (LDL), while having no negative impact on good cholesterol (HDL).  It helps reduce the risk of type 2 diabetes, promotes regularity, and increases the presence of beneficial bacteria in the gut.  Soluble fiber also creates a sense of fullness, allowing you to feel satisfied on less food.  Sadly, one of the biggest deficiencies in our diet is fiber. While the FDA recommends adults take 20-38 grams of fiber per day (depending on age and gender) most of us consume around half of that.  That is why we included soluble fiber in our SmartyPants Weight Management – to help close this nutrition gap and to help bring these many benefits to our customers.

Soluble fiber dissolves in water in the digestive tract and transforms into a gel during digestion.  This gel expands in your system, giving you the experience of feeling full on less food.  Soluble fiber moves through the gut slowly and lowers total cholesterol and the bad cholesterol (LDL) without affecting the good cholesterol (HDL).   It also may stabilize blood sugar by slowing the absorption of carbohydrates into the blood.  This has added benefit against diabetes, as it can lower blood sugar levels.

To make our Weight Management product with no added sugar live up to our high standards, we needed to formulate the gummies from scratch.  At the end of our search for the best possible ingredients, we found chicory root for the base of our new gummies. Chicory is a somewhat woody plant usually with bright blue flowers. The leaves are used for salads and the roots can be used as a coffee substitute or ground as an herb. These roots are also used to make medicines. Chicory root has a long history of providing support to liver problems. Ancient Romans used the herb to help cleanse the blood. The root of the chicory plant contains inulin, which acts as a source of dietary fiber and helps your body absorb minerals from digested food products. Inulin also promotes the growth of naturally occurring bacteria in your digestive system and helps keep it functioning normally.

There are two different types of fiber: soluble and insoluble, or “bulk” fiber.  Soluble fiber (the kind found in SmartyPants Weight Management) dissolves in water and transforms into a gel during digestion.  This gel expands in your system, giving you the experience of feeling more satisfied on less food.  Insoluble fiber, on the other hand, cannot be dissolved in the water in your body, and must be taken with water.  Once ingested, bulk fiber absorbs water, allowing it to move quickly through your system.  This can cause a loosening of the stool, promoting bowel movements.  Soluble fiber, while also benefitting regularity, does not need to be taken with water.  We wanted taking your weight management product to be simple and purely beneficial, so we chose soluble fiber.

Vitamin B-12 is a water-soluble vitamin and is required for proper red blood cell formation, neurological function, and DNA synthesis.  B-12 also helps us process the foods we eat and turn them into energy to power our metabolism.  A powered metabolism helps our bodies burn the food we consume rather than storing it as fat.  B-12 deficiency can lead to sluggishness, an overall lack of energy, and poor mood.  Thus, getting enough B-12 is critical for energy levels.

Typically, anyone over the age of 16 can take our Adult products. Lower sugar and soluble fiber are certainly areas of concern for many parents, and our weight management product may be a good solution in a lower dose of 4 gummies per day.  But we always recommend checking with your healthcare practitioner for what might be right for your child.

Vitamin B-12 is available commercially in two forms: Cyanocobalamin and methylcobalamin.  It turns out there’s a big difference between the two, because methylcobalamin is the type of B vitamin used by your brain and nerves.  Cyanocobalamin contains a bond with cyanide (a poison) that must be detoxified before it provides any health benefits.  We prefer not to have cyanide molecules in our own children, so we left it out of the vitamin we developed for our and your kids, as well as for grownups who take our adult product.

Because smaller fish are lower on the food chain, they bio-accumulate a small fraction of the toxins found in the larger fish used by most vitamin manufacturers. Fish like tuna and salmon can have much higher concentrations of environmental contaminants (PCBs, dioxin, mercury), and we don’t want those things in our or our children’s growing bodies. Our fish oil supplier is a USP certified facility that uses a vacuum filtration process to filter out any possible toxins that are present in the small fish and we are able to guarantee our fish oil is certified toxin-free through third-party laboratory testing. Also, we wanted to make a vitamin that was as planet friendly as it was kid friendly. Tuna populations are being fast depleted and small fish are considered the eco-friendly way to get your Omega3′s. We only use sustainably harvested anchovy & sardine to source our omega 3 DHA and EPA, and SmartyPants are an excellent source of both of these important essential fatty acid fish oils.

SmartyPants are manufactured in a GMP certified facility in California, and are always compliant with strict Proposition 65 guidelines.

Good Manufacturing Practice (GMP) is a series of quality control guidelines designed to ensure products are produced in a manner that safeguards the health of the consumer. This certification is issued by the FDA. We use only GMP certified labs for the production of SmartyPants, which means you can trust our vitamins have been produced to the highest standards on the market. Our fish oil supplier’s laboratory is also USP certified, a quality control certificate that is considered the gold standard in the supplement industry.

At this time Fish Oil is not able to be certified organic, so we can’t claim to be entirely organic on our label because our all-in-one vitamin includes an excellent source Omega 3s sourced from anchovy & sardine. We don’t meet the % requirement (90% of volume) to claim the product is certified organic — although we can claim that our ingredients are organic as we use exclusively organic cane sugar and tapioca.

Our goal was to create an All-in-One gummy that would not only provide a full multivitamin + Vitamin D + Fish Oil, but have you and your kids asking to take their vitamins.

As an all-in-one we are 3 separate servings hence the high number of gummies. The real trick is the Fish Oil. DHA/EPA is a large molecule and needs room! We wanted to provide an excellent source not just a trace so we could put it on our label. Its why if you took a Vitamin D, a multi and Fish Oil separately you would likely be taking more than 6 a day (if you were taking them at the same nutrient levels). You are also saving money!
