When should my little one switch from Toddler Complete to Kids Complete?

Line + Line Copy Created with Sketch. CLOSE Line + Line Copy Created with Sketch.

The age-old question. But the answer is a little fuzzy because not all toddlers mature at the same rate.

This short answer is that our Toddler Complete and Organics Toddler Complete gummies are formulated for toddlers between the ages of 2 – 3, and our Kids Complete and Organics Kids Complete gummies are formulated for children between the ages of 4 – 13. So, when your little one turns 4, it’s time to switch.

However, there are other factors that may affect this recommendation, like weight and height. So, we always recommend checking with a trusted medical professional if you have any questions or concerns about giving your child a new supplement or changing their current one.

Now, here’s a little more background on those age recommendations and the science behind how we formulate our supplements. We use recommendations from the Health and Medicine Division (HMD) to carefully-select our ingredients and the amounts to use. Their guideline for the recommended dietary allowances (RDAs) for vitamins takes into consideration height and weight along with age, and it covers 97% of the healthy population. Often, these recommendations are based on more recent science than the % Daily Values that consumers see on nutrition and supplement fact labels.

These Daily Values are what the FDA uses and lag behind the RDAs. However, the % Daily Values help consumers understand how the amount of a nutrient in a serving of a food, fits into their total daily diet. It also allows them to compare the nutritional value of food products. It’s also why our supplements don’t include 100% Daily Values for all our nutrients across the board. Along with the HMD’s recommendations, we also utilize current research on dietary patterns to ensure that our multifunctional formulas fill typical nutrient gaps in the average Western diet. This way, your child gets a healthy balance of the vitamins and essential nutrients you want and less of what you don’t need – in one easy serving.

But when you have a little one that’s maturing at a slightly different pace than their peers, some of these rules may not apply. That’s why we recommend checking with your doctor if you have any additional questions.

Why Do Your Labels Say “Discontinue Use Two Weeks Prior to Surgery?” Should I Be Worried?

Line + Line Copy Created with Sketch. CLOSE Line + Line Copy Created with Sketch.

We’ve included the statement “discontinue use two weeks prior to surgery,” or modifications of that warning statement, as part of our standard warning to encourage customers who are contemplating or undergoing a medical procedure to speak to their health care provider about the use of our product. If you are planning a medical procedure or are taking prescription medications, especially blood thinners, be sure to consult your healthcare provider before taking this product. As a general precaution, we always recommend you consult your primary health care provider before using any of our products to determine if they are right for you.

What Makes SmartyPants Different From Other Vitamins?

Line + Line Copy Created with Sketch. CLOSE Line + Line Copy Created with Sketch.

We started SmartyPants because we believe the very best vitamins are all in one: premium ingredients delivered in a delicious package at a fair price. And that’s exactly what SmartyPants does.

We use only the best and most well-researched nutrients, and we use the form that is easiest for your body to absorb whenever possible. All our vitamin supplements combine a full multivitamin, including over 100% of your daily vitamin D and B12, and omega 3 fish oil — all in one.

Best of all, all those nutrients come together to produce a delicious package that is so delicious, you’ll never forget to take your vitamins again!

Finally, our formula actually saves you money — if you bought the same quality individual components separately, you would easily spend more than twice what we charge per bottle. This is why we created SmartyPants in the first place: to simplify health for everyone.

Why Do I Need to Take So Many Gummies? The Recommended Dose Seems High…

Line + Line Copy Created with Sketch. CLOSE Line + Line Copy Created with Sketch.

Our gummies are packed with significant amounts of at least 13 essential nutrients and omega 3 fish oil. We pride ourselves on our great taste, so we spread the nutrients and fish oil across multiple gummies so that they don’t taste fishy or vitamin-y… because we figured nobody would take a fish-flavored gummy.

If that’s too many gummies at once for you, don’t worry! You can split up one serving throughout the day however you like!

What is Inositol? Why is it in the A.M. Formula?

Line + Line Copy Created with Sketch. CLOSE Line + Line Copy Created with Sketch.

Inositol is sometimes referred to as vitamin B8 and is really important for your cells because it helps support the health of their cell membranes – your cell’s first line of defense. The cell membrane is critical in regulating and maintaining the cell’s internal environment. Inositol is found in many foods that don’t rank high on bariatric diet priorities such as wheat germs, citrus fruit, whole grains, cereals, flours, etc. We decided to make this part of your morning routine (like breakfast with grapefruit and a bowl a cereal) so that you get in some of this helpful nutrient in collaboration with its nutritional partner choline.*

I Thought I Need Biotin to Prevent Hair Loss?

Line + Line Copy Created with Sketch. CLOSE Line + Line Copy Created with Sketch.

You do need biotin as part of your nutrition plan, but it is unlikely to be the main or sole factor in hair loss. To prevent and address hair loss, which actually reflects the last 3 months of biological activity, it is critical to consider all factors that may be influencing your hair health – including what your nutrition status was like for the last three months – and to make sure you are getting in enough proteins, healthy fats, iron, and other nutrients including biotin. Biotin is an important nutrient despite the fact that we only need a little of it each day (300 mcg). Biotin deficiencies can occur for a number of reasons such as blood loss, medications, insufficient intake due to intolerance, cold, and more. While you need a small amount of biotin daily, you should be able to get it in through your bariatric-approved nutrition plan. For example, you can get biotin from eggs (including protein powders), almond butter, and peanut butter among other foods.  When it comes to preventing or treating hair loss, our experts suggest you consult your health care provider to address all nutritional concerns before and after surgery as well as to develop a nutrition plan to address the hair loss.*

Why Are Your Omega 3 Fish Oil Values Lower Than Before?

Line + Line Copy Created with Sketch. CLOSE Line + Line Copy Created with Sketch.

We pride ourselves in using the most premium ingredients possible, and this includes fish oil from sustainable, wild-caught stocks of small fish. Just like us, each little fish is slightly different from the rest!

The amounts of EPA and DHA omega 3 fatty acids in wild-caught fish will naturally vary from one fish to another.

This natural variation stems from differences in diet, environment, and life stage, and it means that each batch of SmartyPants supplements may have different quantities of EPA, DHA, and total omega 3 fatty acids. You can’t standardize nature!

Our typical values are derived from all previous batches of that same product, and provide a rough estimate of how much EPA and DHA are in each batch. We choose to round down rather than up.

Each serving of your SmartyPants complete supplement may actually contain more omega 3 EPA and DHA than what is listed on the label.

Long story short – one of our core values at SmartyPants is transparency. We are always striving to make our product better and our communications more informative and more helpful. We are committed to the highest quality standards in the industry, so we’ve adjusted our labels to better represent these natural fluctuations in our products. We would never knowingly give the wrong impression or lead our customers to believe they are getting something different than what is actually in our products.

We track every batch to assure our typical values are in line with our label claim requirements, and we will continue to monitor results and provide the most accurate information possible.

If you have any other questions, please don’t hesitate to ask!

Your Certificate of Compliance Shows That There Are Heavy Metals In Your Products. Should I Be Concerned?

Line + Line Copy Created with Sketch. CLOSE Line + Line Copy Created with Sketch.

Heavy metals such as lead are naturally occurring minerals found in the water, soil, air, and foods we come into contact with every day.

The fact is, it’s impossible to eliminate all traces of heavy metals in our products.

Any naturally occurring heavy metals in our products are part of the food matrix contained in the premium ingredients we use to craft each and every one of our supplements. That being said, we created SmartyPants for our very own children. We give them to our families, friends, and take them ourselves, so you can be sure we hold each and every one of our products to the most rigorous safety standards.

We are proud to say that all SmartyPants products meet or fall well below the legal limits of California’s Prop. 65 – the strictest standard, worldwide, for environmental toxins.

As shown in the example below, “Specification” denotes the maximum allowable dose levels (MADLs) for each heavy metal under California’s Prop. 65 while “Results” shows how much of each heavy metal was detected in our product.

As indicated in our Certificate of Compliance, each and every batch of SmartyPants has always met, or fallen below, these rigorous limits.

To see just how well we compare to different regulatory limits, have a look at the chart below. These daily limits are for adults.

* Limits assume a 2.5-gram gummy and a 6-piece serving of SmartyPants Adult Complete. USP designated daily upper limits for lead, arsenic, and cadmium are 10 ppm, 3 ppm, and 3 ppm respectively.

The limits set by California’s Proposition 65 are significantly lower than the limits set by the FDA and USP. The FDA’s upper limit for lead, for example, is 150 times greater than the upper limit for lead set by California’s Prop. 65. All SmartyPants products meet or fall well below California’s strict limits for environmental toxins and heavy metals.

At SmartyPants, one of our core principles is transparency, so we’ve adjusted our Certificates of Compliance to make our communications more informative and more helpful.

We test and track every batch to assure our typical values are in line with our label claim requirements, and we will continue to monitor results and provide the most accurate information possible.

Are SmartyPants Vegetarian?

Line + Line Copy Created with Sketch. CLOSE Line + Line Copy Created with Sketch.

Yes. Calling all herbivores! Our new SmartyPants Organics gummies are certified vegetarian by the American Vegetarian Association (AVA). Yay!

We have five new certified-organic and certified-vegetarian products including: Organics Toddler, Organics Kids Complete, Organics Prenatal, Organics Women’s Complete, and Organics Men’s Complete

For our Organics gummies, we sourced our vegetarian omega-3 ALA from organic flaxseed oil.

Our other SmartyPants gummies are not vegetarian because they contain gelatin derived from pork and fish oil.

We use gelatin derived from pork to microencapsulate our fish oil. Since all SmartyPants products are produced in GMP-Compliant, allergen-free facilities that do not accept any beef or fish proteins, we must use pork gelatin to micro-encapsulate our fish oil. We include fish oil because it’s a major source of omega 3 fatty acids, especially DHA and EPA which come from fatty fish and some types of sea algae.

We understand that many people avoid consuming animal products for religious or dietary reasons, so we are hard at work creating a vegetarian and Kosher/Halal formula. If you’re interested in hearing about those products when they arrive, please email [email protected] to be added to our mailing list.

Why are the Men’s Complete Gummies All Red?

Line + Line Copy Created with Sketch. CLOSE Line + Line Copy Created with Sketch.

SmartyPants Men’s Complete comes in lemon crème, blueberry, and blackberry – so why are they all red? The color comes from the lycopene found in this formula. At SmartyPants we believe in using only premium ingredients and avoiding the bad stuff. That includes synthetic dyes and colors. So we left those out, along with artificial flavors and sweeteners.

We like to think our Men’s gummies bring a little Forrest Gump fun to taking your vitamins: three delicious flavors, one handsome color, and you never know what you’re gonna get!

Why Aren’t All SmartyPants Certified Organic?

Line + Line Copy Created with Sketch. CLOSE Line + Line Copy Created with Sketch.

At this time, our core family of vitamin products can’t be certified organic because they include omega-3 fish oil sourced from sustainable stocks of wild-caught small fish. At this time, fish oil from wild-caught fish is not certifiable as organic since we can’t be sure everything the fish ate was organic.

Additionally, the sweeteners (inulin syrup and Lo Han fruit extract) in our Fiber products are not certified organic.

SmartyPants Seems Expensive Compared to Other Products. Why?

Line + Line Copy Created with Sketch. CLOSE Line + Line Copy Created with Sketch.

A cabinet full of uneaten or expired supplements helps no one, especially not you. They’re probably unopened or, worse, expired, and the most expensive vitamins are the ones that are unused and end up in the trash.

That’s why SmartyPants believes the best supplements combine all the premium nutrients you want in one convenient, hassle-free package. This saves you time, money, and peace of mind. All our vitamin supplements combine a full multivitamin, including over 100% of your daily vitamin D and B12, and omega 3 fish oil — all in one. So no more worrying about having to buy and take separate supplements. Life’s already too complicated for that.

Best of all, we use only the best and most well-researched nutrients, and we use the form that is easiest for your body to absorb whenever possible. This include the biologically active form of vitamin D as D3, folate as methylfolate, and B12 as methylcobalamin. If you bought the same quality individual components separately, you would easily spend more than twice what we charge per bottle.

Simply put, SmartyPants does it all – premium ingredients delivered in a delicious package at a fair price.

Does SmartyPants Make Supplements for Dogs?

Line + Line Copy Created with Sketch. CLOSE Line + Line Copy Created with Sketch.

Yes! Call it our pet project. We recently launched SmartyPaws our new multi supplement for dogs. We have 9 different formulas, each customized by size (small, medium, and large breed) and stage of life (puppy, adult, and senior).

Our multifunctional formulas were designed by vets and made with certified-organic whole ingredients to support joint, digestion, allergy, immunity, and skin health – all in one peanut buttery-flavored that pups love! (You’ll have to excuse the drool.)

We use premium and plant-based ingredients without any synthetic colors or synthetic flavors. Plus, they’re wheat-free and dairy-free.

Why Not Make a Sugar-Free Product?

Line + Line Copy Created with Sketch. CLOSE Line + Line Copy Created with Sketch.

Many sugar-free products use artificial sweeteners and sugar alcohols like xylitol, polydextrose, sucralose, sorbitol, mannitol, isomalt, and hydrogenated starch hydrolysates. These artificial sweeteners and sugar alcohols do not match the rigorous nutritional standards we require of the ingredients in our products.

How Did You Pick Which Nutrients to Include in Your Products?

Line + Line Copy Created with Sketch. CLOSE Line + Line Copy Created with Sketch.

We carefully craft each of our formulas to match the specific nutritional demands of the product’s target demographic (age, sex, life stage, and etc). This means we thoughtfully tailor which nutrients and in what quantities we include in each and every one of our products based on the FDA’s reference daily intake (RDI), the Institute of Medicine’s recommendations, and the latest science and advice from leading nutritional experts, all with consideration to cost.

SmartyPants is unique in the industry for focusing on the nutrients that are the toughest to get from our diets alone and filling dietary gaps. We always recommend you get nutrients from food first, so we formulate our products to complement the average American diet, not replace it.

Is There an Overdose Risk with SmartyPants?

Line + Line Copy Created with Sketch. CLOSE Line + Line Copy Created with Sketch.

Because our gummies taste really good (and people might eat more than they should) we’ve thoroughly researched toxicity issues for each of our ingredients with our Scientific Advisory Board. We want to assure you that none of the ingredients in any SmartyPants formulas have proven toxicity in large amounts – even for infants. Our formulas do not contain iron. Although SmartyPants does contain some fat-soluble vitamins, a one-time, large dose (over the recommended serving size) won’t hurt you.

While everything in SmartyPants is safe, we cannot legally give medical advice, so we recommend you follow up with a medical professional or doctor. If needed: for immediate medical advice, you can contact the American Association of Poison Control Centers: 800-222-1222. You can also write in to us at: [email protected] and we will be happy to answer any additional questions you may have.

How Can I Be Sure Your Labels Are Accurate?

Line + Line Copy Created with Sketch. CLOSE Line + Line Copy Created with Sketch.

At SmartyPants, we always want to go above and beyond. We test each and every batch of finished product at a third-party lab to make sure that what you read on our labels is what you get in our bottles.

In other words, each batch of finished product undergoes a full panel test to assure that the blend meets all label claims. Furthermore, each batch is tested using verified methods (AOAC, USP, etc.) for the presence of pesticides, residual solvents, microbial contaminants, heavy metals, and gluten.

The test results (our Certificate of Compliance) for each and every batch of finished product is then posted to our website for all to see!

That being said, if you have a known allergy and would like to check if any of our product contains a certain ingredients, please email us at [email protected] so we can assist you. How Can I Be Sure SmartyPants Are Safe?

We create each and every product with our own children in mind, so rest assured that the safety of our products is our number one priority. We only use FDA GRAS ingredients and the fish oil in SmartyPants supplements is one of the most trusted sources of omega 3 fish oil available, undergoing numerous quality checks to make sure it’s safe, pure, and of the highest possible quality. Since iron is the leading cause of supplemental overdose, we didn’t include it in our gummy formulas. We test each and every batch of finished product at a third-party lab. There, each batch of finished product undergoes a full panel test to assure that the blend meets all label claims. That way, you can be sure that what you read on our labels is what you get in our bottles. From start to finish, our internal Quality Assurance team is working hard to make sure that all our products meet and (hopefully) exceed the rigorous standards that we promise our customers.

Furthermore, SmartyPants is unique in the industry for focusing on the nutrients that are the toughest to obtain from our diets alone and filling dietary gaps. We always recommend you get nutrients from food first, so we formulate our products to complement the average American diet, not replace it. That means that we include safe amounts of vitamins and minerals in our products. After all, we believe it’s important to focus on how all of the available scientific research provides a story to shape the recommendations for how much of each nutrient we should eat daily. Every year, we revise our formulas to make sure we are in line with the best science for the people we serve.

We care about each and every ingredient that goes into SmartyPants.

50 Calories? That Seems Like A Lot!

Line + Line Copy Created with Sketch. CLOSE Line + Line Copy Created with Sketch.

At SmartyPants, we like to think of calories like money – each day you have a budget. You have to decide where you’re going to spend your money, and what you’re going to get in return. You definitely shouldn’t spend any of your calorie budget on empty calories that give you nothing in return.

So with every calorie you eat, you have to consider what you’re getting along WITH those calories. SmartyPants delivers at least 13 essential nutrients and omega 3 fish oil, all in 50 calories. We think that’s an enormous nutritional bang for your buck. We hope you agree.

Where Should I NOT Store my Gummies?

Line + Line Copy Created with Sketch. CLOSE Line + Line Copy Created with Sketch.

We recommend storing your SmartyPants in a cool, dry place. SmartyPants can be stored in the refrigerator.

Avoid storing your gummies in places like:

  1. Your car for long periods of time
  2. Near a furnace or heater
  3. On a windowsill which gets direct sunlight
  4. On top of a refrigerator
  5. Inside a cabinet near an oven or microwave
  6. On, or adjacent to, the planet Mercury

How Should I Store my SmartyPants?

Line + Line Copy Created with Sketch. CLOSE Line + Line Copy Created with Sketch.

It is best to store SmartyPants away from direct sunlight and other sources of heat. Store in a cool, dry place at room temperatures up to 75° F (25° C). We use opaque bottles which, unlike clear bottles, repel heat and light – the arch enemies of gummies. On the other hand, our gummies, unlike a gelatin gummy that melts around 100ᴼF, will not melt in the heat.

The one thing you don’t want to do is to change the temperature of the gummies repeatedly by, say, taking them out of the refrigerator and forgetting to put them back in until the next day. Repeated cycling of the temperature will cause the gummies to release moisture, and they could start sticking together.
